The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court observed the 80th Independence Day of India with solemnity, dignity and patriotic fervour, reaffirming its commitment to the Constitution, the rule of law and the values that define the country’s democratic institutions.
The ceremonial flag-hoisting was led by Hon’ble Justice Rajan Roy, Senior Judge, Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench, at the High Court premises.
As the Tricolour rose majestically, the atmosphere across the Court complex reflected a deep sense of national pride and respect for the country’s constitutional journey.
The ceremony was followed by the rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the National Anthem. A special performance by the PAC Band added to the solemnity and grandeur of the occasion.
A Celebration Rooted in Constitutional Values
The Independence Day observance was not merely a ceremonial event but also a reaffirmation of the ideals enshrined in the Constitution of India.
The occasion highlighted the enduring values of justice, integrity, constitutional responsibility, democracy and public service, while recalling the sacrifices made by generations of Indians in the struggle for freedom.
The gathering reflected a collective commitment to preserving the constitutional framework and strengthening public faith in the institutions of justice.
Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Justice Rajan Roy, along with other Hon’ble Judges, their spouses and retired Hon’ble Judges, paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi within the Court premises.
The tribute served as a solemn reminder of Gandhi’s enduring ideals of truth, non-violence, public service and moral courage, which continue to hold relevance in the life of the nation.
Judiciary and Legal Fraternity in Attendance
The ceremony was attended by the Senior Registrar, officers and employees of the High Court, along with the Additional Advocates General of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Standing Counsels and Government Counsels.
Senior representatives of the legal fraternity, including the President, General Secretary and members of the Executive Committee of the Awadh Bar Association, were also present.
A Message Beyond the Ceremony
The Independence Day programme at the High Court premises carried a message extending beyond the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag.
It reaffirmed that the spirit of independence is inseparably linked with the rule of law, constitutional governance, judicial integrity and the protection of citizens’ rights.
As India marks eight decades of independence, the ceremony at the Lucknow Bench stood as a reminder that the strength of a democracy ultimately rests on its unwavering commitment to justice, constitutional values and the dignity of every citizen.
